By donating to Calgary Reads you help us get closer to our vision of a thriving community where all children read with confidence and joy.
Literacy is a fundamental life skill that drives economic growth, productivity and innovation. Children in grade 1 and 2 learn to read, and by grade 3 they need to read to learn. 25% of children entering grade 2 today are already significantly behind their peers in literacy and learning skills. With early intervention most struggling young readers can catch up.
Our primary program trains hundreds of volunteer tutors to support these children in one-on-one tutoring sessions. We also host professional development sessions, school reading celebrations, literacy evenings and hold a yearly book sale that puts thousands of gently-used books in the hands of book lovers. Our vision is a thriving community where all children read with confidence and joy.
